Bull of the Woods lookout 6/27/10
Bull of the Woods lookout 6/27/10
Headed up to the Bull of the Woods lookout via trail #550 today. Hit patchy snow around the wilderness boundary for about a mile, then clear all the way to the top from there. It finally feels like summer is upon us. Trail is in great shape with only a few minor blowdowns to negotiate. And no mosquitoes to contend with. Although I'm sure that will change by weeks end. A few pics of a perfect day.

Great pictures! I'm so enthused to see that everything is finally melting out. The summit of Bull Of The Woods is at 5500 feet so it's really coming on fast - bring it on!

Love this trail and the lookout! can you tell me how the drive in to the trail head was?
is 63 still washed out above the Bagby turn off? I am going there in 2 weeks and was thinking that 4670 would be a good entry to 6350 to 63 then up 6341.
If you would, please share about the drive into the trail head! Thanks so much! Mike

I know that road 63 is open now. It was fixed late last summer/early fall (October?). Not sure about the snow there, though.

Hey now, who said mama did the kid hauling? Dad (me) did all the work on this one, although mom's definitely done her share. Gotta take credit when you put in the work, that kid's getting heavy.
No problems on 63 or 6340 coming in. A few dips on 6340, but nothing that can't be negotiated in a car.
I was surprised how little snow we ran into. It's melting out fast.

Great pix and great timing. Planning to go this weekend and hopefully the weather will be nice again. I'm envious of your daughter -- now that's the way to travel!

Yeah, Great pics, looks like you had perfect weather! I've never done this hike yet, but am very anxious to get there! How deep is the snow on the forest service roads? Is the trail clearly marked throughout the hike? I know there are multiple trails that connect to the Bull of the woods lookout trail, just wanted to know if there are signs?

Love it when the kids get out early. What a great start.
