GPS Fly

Post by Martell » April 12th, 2012, 3:21 pm

GPS Fly now works. The only trick is you have to pull the URL out of the embed code it gives you:

Code: Select all

<iframe width="645" height="440" src="http://gpsfly.org/gps_map.php?gps_id=1453&w=645&h=440" scrolling="no" frameborder="no"></iframe>
So on this one just the http://gpsfly.org/gps_map.php?gps_id=1453&w=645&h=440 goes between the gpsfly tags.

Example:

Code: Select all

[gpsfly]http://gpsfly.org/gps_map.php?gps_id=1453&w=645&h=440[/gpsfly]
http://gpsfly.org/gps_map.php?gps_id=1453&w=645&h=440

Cool thanks Martell..

Since we are adding all these new embed functions anyway we could add an embed tag for GPS Visualizer Maps? Especially as they are the product of a fellow Forum member?

Cheers.

I'm not sure GPS Visualizer works the same way. I could be wrong, but I don't think it gives you a permanent URL to share. The nice thing about GPS Visualizer is you can output to an image that you can save to your hard drive or post directly to Portland Hikers. I used those images for demos on a couple Field Guide entries.

True that, I like the interactive maps you can make with popup photo thumbnails & hyperlinks etc but you do have to store them in your own web space so the urls would be different for each user. Is it a security issue why we cant just have a plain embed tag?

Yep. I'm basically just whitelisting certain trusted sites and allowing an iframe to point to them.

Speaking of gpsfly... anyone have issues recently playing the animation that shows your hike in 3D? I've tried it on three of our computers and the track starts, but freezes after a mile or two.

Anyone else having trouble with playback on gpsfly?

Gpsfly freezes the animation on me if the screensaver kicks in. Gotta refresh the page to get it going again. Haven't seen it do that otherwise.

To anyone: Is there a switch to throw in the embed URL to get it to display "regular" units rather than metric?

Yes there is a box you can check at the time of upload for default units.

REGULAR units?   I get all confused about how many ounces to a ton (long or short ton?) or the number of inches to a mile. Thankfully only three countries use regular units: “Three countries use non-metric measurement systems: Liberia, Myanmar, and the United States.” ..the rest of the world uses the metrics system.
