One of my favorite websites! My perpetual confusion on that is whether UT "observes" DST. I don't believe it does. So now, when we're in Standard Time, we definitely subtract 0800. But I seem to recall that in the summer we're -0700? This is all the more confusing, now that GMT is a timezone, which (I believe?) does shift into DST.

I have my add and subtract flippity-flopped. UTC does not do DST. I wish we didn't, either.

Yeah, Mt Jefferson would be perfect. You wouldn't have to be at the summit North/South, just on the ridge with good views East and West.
That would be a bummer to get there at 5:16PM and then realize that was Univeral Time and you missed it

I really don't know if Universal Time observes DST. I know that most of Europe and Britain do, but they switch at different times than we do. Made it really interesting during the 5 years my daughter lived in Germany! I would think, though, that UT would remain on their "standard" time!

UT is UT - no daylight savings time. At noon at 0 degree longitude, Greenwich England, the sun is at maximum height, although it's more complicated than that because some people need to have time accurate to tiny bits of a second and the earth rotation changes.

Olallie Butte, north of Park Butte, might be better as a viewing point. Jefferson won't block as much of the view to the south, and eastern Oregon will be exposed directly below as a canvas for the light show.
Of course, it's the time of the year for a fire contingency plan.

It seems like a good time to revive this thread and do a bit of planning. If your plan requires car camping at a place where reservations are allowed, you may want to get your dates nailed down! I expect backpacking to anywhere popular will be more crowded than normal, too.
