I was thinking about camping around Big Slide Lake in the next couple of weeks.
I was wondering how swimmable it is and if the bugs are out of control this time of year?
Thanks!

Re: Big Slide Lake Questions
I camped there last August and yes, the bugs are out this time of year. We arrived around 6:00 pm and had to pretty much hide out in the tents for the evening. Also, I didn't swim but it looked pretty inviting-

Great. Thanks so much for the reply. I think I'm going to check it out.
Re: Big Slide Lake Questions
If you're thinking of getting there via the Dickey Creek trail, you'll want to wait until after Labor Day. The road to the trailhead, FR6340, is closed for a couple of weeks for repairs. There's no alternative route to that trailhead. This also affects the Bull of the Woods trail and Pansy Lake trail.

Thanks so much for the info. I had no idea. Looks like I'm going to have to find another place to go for the weekend.

For what it's worth, I hiked dickey creek last saturday 8/23 and the road wasn't closed but I wouldn't guarantee it isn't now. There is logging going on all around that area right now.
