Cloud Cap Road Re-opening Delayed (July 27)

Post by Splintercat » July 27th, 2014, 8:14 am

If you've been waiting for the scheduled June 27 reopening of the Cloud Cap Road after more than a year of closure, you're going to wait a little longer: the Forest Service has extended the closure to allow for continued commercial logging dangerous tree removal indefinitely, though their website suggests it will reopen sometime this summer, after the remaining marketable logs dangerous trees have been cut and hauled out.

Stay tuned...

I called the Hood River office a week or so ago, and they said "mid-August" then.

Ah well, in the meanwhile, Cooper Spur offers near-complete solitude. :D

Is Copper Spur Ski area open for parking? If not, what's the best way to get to the Cooper Spur trail?

You can park at the gate on the road to Cloud Cap, and hike straight up from there.

Thank you. Do you know how far up Cloud Cap Road the gate is? I assume then that one is allowed to walk up the closed road to Tilly Jane?

The gate is almost at the bottom. Trail is much shorter than road. Only 3.5 miles to Tilly Jane.
