I was told it was a version of "tyee" which means king or boss, and used as in king or chinook salmon. But I'm guessing the salmon wouldn't get up past White River Falls--maybe the area below the falls was really good fishing?
Anyone been to the Tygh Valley rodeo?

Nah, it's a different word (although possibly etymologically related). "Tyee" doesn't have a (now-silent) consonant on the end.SonOfTamarack wrote:I was told it was a version of "tyee" which means king or boss, and used as in king or chinook salmon.

I went to the Tygh Valley Rodeo back in '71 or '72. It was quite the wild night. Pretty unnerving at times. I think it may have gotten better now, safer maybe. Back then it was still called "The all indian rodeo". Lots of fights occurring. Still had a good time overall.
