I took advantage of the sunny weather and hit the trail about 8:15. The Herman Creek gate is open to the campground. Only the TH parking is open, the campground itself is still closed.
The first snow is at 2975 feet according to my GPS. After the first viewpoint on the PCT it is solid snow. Boots and gaiters were a good gear choice. Snowshoes would have been nice but not required. In one or two short sections I had to kick steps. The vertical exposure isn't too bad since there are plenty of trees to break your fall . Teakettle Springs is running if you need water. The top of the plateau has about 2-3 feet of snow on the ground. I went just passed the first trail junction-Benson Way Trail?-before turning back. GPS was very helpful in regaining the trail after missing a switchback or two in the snow. Much like Daniel Boone I was never lost just a mite confused.

Summer breezes caressed me, my legs stepped forward as though possessed of their own appetite, and the mountains kept promising. Rebecca Solnit

Most of my time is spent confused as opposed to lost. My wife would beg to differ though. Thanks for the report!
