Hidden Falls and Sturgeon Rock (12/28/23)

Post by Sugar Pine » December 29th, 2023, 8:56 pm

Took advantage of the lack of snow to hike a loop below Silver Star to Hidden Falls and up Sturgeon Rock. At the Appaloosa - Tarbell junction were Timber Sale Boundary signs, with the boundary line crossing the Tarbell and then crossing back over.

The weather was unexpectedly warm, nearly 50 degrees until we neared Sturgeon Rock and we were also exposed to the wind.

Hit the first snow as we continued up the Sturgeon Rock trail to the trail junction below Silver Star. It was a little icy, but there was so little snow we didn't need to use our spikes.

Concerned about time and darkness, we did not hike up Silver Star but were rewarded with fantastic views along the Silver Star trail.

No flowers this time of year, but a stunning hike.

Lots of places still to hike, I guess. Thanks for the post. Which trailhead did you begin from?

We started at a forest road pull-out, not an official trailhead.
