Cannon Beach and Chapman Beach

Post by romann » January 2nd, 2015, 12:52 am

Went today to the shore with my family - we hiked Chapman Beach to Bird Rocks, then drove around the ford and walked most of Cannon Beach. It was very nice day, forecast called for 46F but it was probably closer to 60F :)

By the time we got to Haystack Rock, the tide got pretty low and we could see lots of anemones in tidal pools

Due south, there was some haze from the waves, but looking north and west horizon was perfectly clear

Cave/arch in the big rock - pretty interesting place. The gulls were not very happy with us on their fishing grounds

Did you see any sea stars in the tidal pools or are they all gone?

No, we didn't see sea stars this time. It was "zero" tide (not very low) and we left a couple hours before that, probably water level didn't get low enough. Or maybe they just like rainy weather - one time on a wet day dozens of sea stars literally crawled out of the water, and climbed high on the rocks.
