Yosemite Sept. 2014

Post by roadtripmom » December 21st, 2014, 5:43 pm

Late in the summer I met my sweetheart in Yosemite and we did a four day backpack from Tuolumne Meadows to Little Yosemite valley. It was amazing, scary, beautiful and one of the most breathtaking places I have ever been. We camped next to mountain lakes, soaked our feet in cool streams, saw wildlife, the beginning of a huge forest fire and the beauty that only the Sierra's can hold. I apologize for lack of titles, this is my first time using Picasa to post and it's kind of a test. I don't remember all of the lake and trail names either. Sorry ! If you ever get the chance to climb Half Dome, do it !! It was something I will never forget. The valley was very smoky when we were there as you can see in some of the photos and they closed much of the trail we were on the day after we hiked out. Also, as you can see, many of the trails were built with rocks a long long time ago and I couldn't get over the amount of work that went into them. Incredible !

Really, really beautiful! I watched the movie "Mile, Mile and a Half" last night and I can tell you I really need to get into those California mountains. Simply beautiful!

Wonderful! This was so fun to see. My latest obsession is reading everything I can about the JMT, and that includes Half Dome and the Tuolumne area. Thank you for sharing!

Yosemite is the best. :D

How was navigating the Half Dome permit system? I did it years ago, before the permits were instituted. The cable ladder is a blast!

Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! Yosemite is high on my bucket list but since getting there and back requires four days of driving I haven't made it happen yet.

Bosterson, we added the Half Dome permit to our trip permit. I don't remember having any issues.

We also climbed just before sunset and had it to ourselves which was amazing!

Incredible photos! That view looking down from the cable ladder on HD is epic, to be sure. Glad you had such a great time!

Doing Half Dome as part of a backpack seems the way to go. Nothing like having a zillion people up there with you to ruin the effect, aside from having the traffic jam on the cables. How far away was your camp?

Drm- Our camp was 2.5 miles from Half Dome. It was at the Clouds Rest trail junction.
