Larch Mtn 13 Dec 2014

Post by lostinpdx » December 15th, 2014, 1:23 pm

Well the weatherman said mostly sunny...

Hiked Larch Mtn this past Saturday. I had done the top of the falls trail before with my mom and was a bit curious as to what was to the left, was hoping for decent views from the summit but was sorely disappointed. Good thing the journey is half the fun. Started at Multnomah Falls Lodge at about 0730.

Hit the summit shortly before 1100 where I discovered it was stuck in the clouds. I had anticipated this might happen so I brought my Jetboil and was prepared to wait it out.....

Then it started to snow...

Gave it a couple hours and packed it in. Had a work function that evening (which ended up being lame, big surprise), and worked on Sunday which was of course gorgeous weather. I would rate this trail overall as moderate with the terrain being moderate and the distance being difficult, it seemed like forever to get back down.

The shots of the falls/creek were dumb luck I left my new camera in shutter priority on 1/3 sec. The Multnomah Falls shot I didn't post process as I thought it captured the pre dawn twilight mood. Camera was a Sony RX-100.

To my fellow Portland Hikers I met on the trail, was nice meeting you and may your summits always be sunny!

Love the pictures! Great to meet you up on Larch!

I was especially happy when the ice chunks turned to fluffy snowflakes for a few minutes, before going back to ice chunks. ;)
