I've noticed that when you get maybe 5 miles from trailhead, the trails get faint at places. Like the trail goes into a meadow and dissappears. You just have to walk to the other side and then start looking for the trail. I think it makes the area more fun.

Beautiful area - and nice pictures. Love all that white granite. Must get back down there next year.

Great TR. I camped at Summit Lk. last spring (on 4 lakes loop) and remember looking over at these drainages. They looked lovely.
What route did you follow? It looks like there's a trail to Alpine Lk (at least on my topo). But how about to Smith & Morris Lks? Did you cut over from Alpine Lk. to Smith Lk., or did you drop back down to the Stuart Fk., up to Morris Meadow, and the x-country up Bear Gulch? I'm guessing the first option, but neither looks easy.
