A quick update on the current conditions from a sunny and warm bluebird morning at Burnt Lake..
No cars at the trailhead, no people until well on the way down.. Upon arrival at 1030..
The reflection of Mt Hood in a super calm and quiet Burnt Lake..
Just a really nice day for reflections..
As the first clouds begin to come into view..
And then a few more..
Mt Hood closeup..
The lakeshore colors around Burnt Lake..
As the wispy clouds pass overhead. I'm not sure why they look kinda pink..
A bit of fall color as we left Burnt Lake to head down to..
Lost Creek Falls..
Looking down the fourth leg of the falls. The idea was to cross and go down but the angle is all wrong to get all four tiers in one shot..
And those cool looking little forest bugs that flit around in the sunlit areas of the woods along the trail..

What a day!! They can keep pushing this rain back until December and it'd be fine with me..

One of my favorite lakes up there. Fishing is usually pretty good there too. I'm hoping that the bluebird weather continues tomorrow and the forecast is all wrong...
Thanks,

Is this a pretty straight forward hike? I am wanting to head up there this weekend and I've never been before. I've read the trail reports (along with the main TR) and there a section that talks about missing your turn on the way back...I am looking to do an out and back hike, not a loop.
I'm planning on starting from the North Burnt Lake TH if that helps. Any advice? Thanks!

I can't think of the easily missed turn.
That's a pretty straightforward hike. Lots of inexperienced people.
As always, when you go up, always look back where you came from so you'll know how to get back. Easy mistake everyone makes from time to time.

Yeah, I can't think of a place to really make a wrong turn until the trail is covered in snow in a few months.
The last stretch of road from Lost Creek campground is kind of a pain but I always get my Honda Civic up there. Slowly..

Oh, there's a turn you can miss on the road going up to trailhead. You have to go right. Going back is obvious though, just go downhill.

Hey thanks for the response! I've been hiking all summer, but it doesn't hurt to ask sometimes, especially at a forum that contains a wealth of hiking knowledge! I don't think I'll have my sidekick with me this time around and I wanted to be sure before heading out

Thanx Brian... I could've sworn last time I was down there it looked like there was a spot below and across where all four sections lined up and then just scramble back up that other side to the trail. But it just bends back the wrong way so sharply on that leg looking down that it just doesn't seem likely.BrianEdwards wrote:Great coverage of the falls Gene. Thanx for sharin
