Four falls, fast & furious (Yeon & Wahclella 8-2-14)

Had a time-crunch, but wanted to get out - why not do a series of shorter sidetrips?

1 - McCord Creek - breakfast with the barges.

Only a vestigial twin left!

Reveled in the fact that it was too cool to eat by the pool and headed back to the bench at the start of the ledge.

Listened to trains and watched the river traffic - Mt. Adams was hiding behind the haze - enough for human eyes, but not iphones.

Had fun looking at all the pipes and things.

2 - Elowah Falls - magical memories

This was my grandfather's favorite 'discovery' hike for newbies and out-of-towners. You feel like you've found a secret treasure - the falls, the bowl, the boxcar boulders, the bridge, the meadow!
(especially if you come during a deep freeze)

3 & 4 - Munra/Wahclella - breaking new ground - a new hike, having only ever been to the trailhead by accident when jumping the gun for Eagle Creek.

A new delight around every corner, starting with Munra Falls.

Wahclella Falls has it all.

'Gorge'-ousness all around

Creature Feature - started the morning with a deer just above the Yeon trailhead and ended it with an ouzel near Munra Falls.

May have been fast and furious, but also FABULOUS!

Any idea what the barrel spewing water, and the pipes that look defunct are for?

Love it, thanks! PDXMaestro, I think I read somewhere long ago that the pipes were used for bringing water down to the Dodson/Warrendale area at one time. They are always fun to climb over on that hike, tetanus-potential notwithstanding :D.
