Trillium Lake 7/29

Post by pdxgene » July 29th, 2014, 2:39 pm

There's a lot of pretty long, tuff hikes coming up in trip reports these days. This isn't one of them. But if you go around the lake enough times over the course of the day it kinda turns into a hike :? But what it lacks in difficulty in makes up in nice scenes and photo ops.. Here's what it looked like today...

Arrival at about 830a..

The flowers are just about done for the season..

I told you this is a rough trail.. :P
Image

Mt Hood in the lily pads..
Image

The one big lone tree in the north end of the lake..
Image

Mt Hood and its reflection..

And from on the lake..

A foot selfie, my best side..

The beaver lodge..

And finishing up with an osprey that would only dive when I didn't have the camera ready. Grrr..

The clouds and crowds arrived so I figured I'd seen the best of the day and might as well beat the traffic home and curl up in front of the a/c..

Hey! I was looking down on you from the PCT/Timberline trail today! What a glorious (hot) day! Your pictures are beautiful.

Thanx! It seemed like a good day to stay near water and shade.. :D

A note for anyone wanting to have a better chance at getting good pictures of the reflection of Mt Hood.. Get there early. A combination of more people and a breeze that generally picks up as the day goes on gives you much better odds early.

Also, even though the ranger on the phone at the ZigZag station yesterday specifically said Trillium DOES require an xtra $5 fee (even though their website said it doesnt they said the site info was wrong) it is posted at the lake and verified by the concessionaire staff that the fee is NOT required if you have a NWForest Pass. There'll be a test...

Hey, thanx!
Sometimes the easiest places can also be the nicest ones. Especially early morning on a weekday. It probably wouldn't be quiet as peaceful up there today..
