SO FUNNY b/c I had one of those dumb hats on the whole hike, but I took it off at the summit. Now I kinda wished I'd left it on!

What kind of post doctoring, if any? I know I probably asked this already, heh :D

My little Lumix just seems to capture everything as hazy out there...
Thanks, Eric! I just use FastStone Image Viewer to tweak the curves a bit. It's a poor-man's Lightroom, but with more of a Windows mindset that doesn't require one to iThink. You can use it forever for free, but I actually made a contribution to the author because it was just that worth it.

Anyway, it's mostly just slight adjustments to highlights and shadows, maybe a tiny contrast bump, a touch of saturation, and sometimes very tiny gamma reduction. See a theme there? It's really easy to go overboard, and I know I've been guilty of that, but I try not to. :)

Occasionally, with really hazy crap, you do gotta get a bit more brutal, though, by adjusting the levels to spread out the histogram. Eg, ...

My eye also really likes a 16:10 ratio, which is very close to "the golden ratio", and just happily is also the aspect ratio on my main monitors. :)

There ya go, Jeremiah! Now maybe add a TFF or two, and toss in a bit more jubilation...! :D

Yeah well if I did it the mountain would choke and the following convulsion would send a torrent of ice and rock that would blast you off the spur and bury me in tons of debris

I'd forgotten about this report, Karl -- still among your best! Great photos and narrative!

iThink.
iThink iAM...
Therefore iAM!
iThink…

;-)
And that's just a wonderful proposal. The bushwhack up between trailheads isn't all that bad, but knowing it's doable is something that may be far from obvious. And for sure a good mile-plus of very insigificant slope could be eliminated if that final hairpin on Elk Cove trail were cut off.
I'm planning to put this out there again this summer when I meet with the USFS on future projects -- they've got some new blood in the Hood River RD, so an opportunity to get unstuck on a few ideas that have been out there for awhile!

Tom :-)

Makes way too much sense! Good luck with that. :)

As the snow melts, this is a great TR to reread!

HA! Fun to see it show up in the Unreads again, too! :)

To be honest, I've had thoughts of Barrett on my mind, lately, as well.

As Sir Paul said, "I wanna get high, high, high, ..."

That was a most enjoyable report! Except for the first photo, of course.
