My grand-daughter’s first big hiking day ever. She has her very own backpack which she has packed with her favorite—M&M’s. She successfully did Top Spur TH to PCT 2000. Then it was into the kid carrier for the trip up to the shelter. She turns 3 Aug 2nd.

Sandy Glacier Ice Caves from open area at 5100’. Imagining a clock face centered on the photo, the openings to the Snow Dragon and Pure Imagination ice caves are at 9 oclock. The Cerberus Moulin is at 11:00.

Broader view of Mt. Hood and Sandy Glacier. Color at right is a partial rainbow around the sun. There were two—a complete circle and a partial second and larger ring.

Switching onto a use trail at the switchbacks below McNeil Point—great campsite down this use trail. The puppy was done hiking at this point.

Homeward bound via the official McNeil Point trail. Grand-daughter did the last 1 ½ miles on her own! No complaints the whole trip.

I keep making protein shakes but they always turn out like margaritas.

All the way to the PCT what a trooper, you can't start them too young.
Great trip report.

Fantastic that the little one did so well! Nice pictures, too. I'm hoping to head there middle of next week.

Thanks for the report!

Nice! Good to see younger ones out there becoming addicted to hiking

In your photo captioned "Sandy Glacier Ice Caves from open area at 5100’. Imagining a clock face centered on the photo, the openings to the Snow Dragon and Pure Imagination ice caves are at 9 oclock. The Cerberus Moulin is at 11:00." I believe you got a good close-up of the "7" in the infamous "47". In the upper right corner of photo.

Just looks like a crack in the rock in that photo. :)

Great report! Love to see others getting their kids out into the woods. I'm impressed that one of you carried a kid on their back up the steep climb to McNeil Pt. shelter!
