Yin and Yang of Yocum - 7/19 to 7/20

Post by rainrunner » July 21st, 2014, 9:08 am

We did a 22-mile overnight backpack trip to Yocum Ridge with a side trip towards the Muddy Fork. There were a few bugs at the creek when we topped off water, but not too many more.

Feeling disgust when seeing the new tree carving at Ramona Falls and then seeing the PCT trail crew working near the Muddy Fork gave us the idea to do a report on opposites ~~ thus the yin and yang.

When you get the first great view of Mt Hood, there was a group camping at the rock star sight, and two groups camping on the ridge, so we headed down from the ridge to the tree island to make our camp.

We met Neil who is a Portland Hikers' lurker. Here he is putting wet socks back on his feet after Honey Badgering it through the rivers while completing the Timberline Loop in three days. Neil assured us he will lurk no longer and write up a trip report.

PCT trail crew included a mom and son who came in from Wisconsin for the week.

Nice report, pics, Yocum Ridge is one of my (many) favorites - nice that it's further away from trailhead so fewer people

I only leave clamato/Budweiser - that sounds so disgusting, how could someone come up with such a product :)

Yikes! It's usually a surprise to me if I see more than one group at Ramona Falls. It's so much nicer there when the bridge (and people) are gone for the season.
Thanx for the update. It kinda looks like most the flower meadows are going to be mid to later in August.

Love the Yin and Yang idea of this TR. Just made me chuckle. I really need to stop reading TR's as they just add places to my list... sigh.
Thanks,

Love it! (Yokum, your post, etc) My biggest yin/yang is the stretch of eternal woods at the bottom vs. coming around each new and delightful corner of the upper reaches...
