The quota system only applies to overnight camping. There is no limit to how many day hikers can head up into the Enchantments core zone. On a nice sunny day on a weekend, that can be A LOT. But there is plenty of room up there to spread out, lots of neat little nooks and crannies to explore. And totally worth it even if there are a handful of other folks up there.
As far as the Chiwaukum Creek fire, I spent the last 4 days backpacking southwest of there from the Deception Pass trailhead. We didn't see or smell smoke the whole time. Apparently the fires up further north in the Okanogan are now far worse than the fire near Leavenworth.

Triple Wow!!! That looks amazing. I'll have to see how I do at elevation in the Wallowas this year and if I do well I'm going to apply for a permit next year. I've been noticing some sensitivity creeping in. Of course the cure for that is more alpine camping.

We're all at least a little bit older than we used to be, but doesn't mean we need to slow down or stop.woodswalker wrote: Woodswalker AKA Also Older Than I used to Be.

I'm slowing down! (literally) - but I ain't stopping. I used to be able to reliably do 2000' per hour EG on a decent trail, sometimes more. Not any more. 1500'/hour is generally my goal now.olderthanIusedtobe wrote:We're all at least a little bit older than we used to be, but doesn't mean we need to slow down or stop.woodswalker wrote: Woodswalker AKA Also Older Than I used to Be.
