Thanks to those that posted reports of this place! You inspired me to check it out!

Bad weather = unpredictable photography...

Here is one on the way back @ Cape Horn:

Starting to really enjoy the WA side/slower pace on the 14, and some of these places I've driven past over the years. Thanks to those that posted before.

Beautiful, Chris! That Cape Horn view is amazing! We saw a similar river-level rainbow from the other direction that day from above Starvation Creek, but not nearly the cloud drama from that direction (just a wall of dark clouds blocking everything west of Shellrock/Wind mountains.

Thanks for posting - terrific photos, as always!

Tom :)

Great shots as always. Love the light in the Cape Horn photo.

Love the picture of the bee!
You are spot on about the weather and photography out there. I am always a bit sad when its cloudy and rainy during a hike, but some of the best "gorge moments" I've had were near sunset, right after it rains, when the Gorge clears up and the sun is right above the hills on the north side, slightly diffused by low residual clouds in the west--the clarity of the air dials up to 11 and the lighting/coloring of the south walls goes glory-supernova...like what you were getting at in your fourth picture. Inevitably, I'm relaxing on the drive back to Portland and then *WOAHLLYSMOKESLOOKATTHAT!* CURSE 84 AND IT'S LACK OF ROOM TO PULL OVER!

I have to make it out there soon! Thanks for the inspirational flower pics and I love that color wall of rain shot.
Tom McCall is always crowded. The first time I was there, it was a weekday and since the hike wasn't in the waterfall main street of the gorge, I actually thought it might be a great quiet stroll. No sooner had I started up the trail than two packed buses of tourists pulled into the already pretty full lot and started up the trail. My quiet picnic lunch at the top meadow felt more like an outdoor rock concert

I "thought" somewhere in the rules that groups were limited to 12 people? Think it's bad now? It's going to get even worse as Oregon is the number one state that everyone has decided to move to. I've noticed a profound change over especially the last 36 month.... Great if you're a homeowner/landowner, bad if you want solitude, or areas preserved... Oh well, maybe save that place for a weekday/early morning scenario, or just find new places.

Maybe they just ignored the group size rules.
