The beargrass displays in the Cascades this year have been awesome. I hiked to the summit of Coffin Mountain yesterday, and the slopes of Coffin are ablaze in blooms of Beargrass. Stunning. The lower half of the trail is in full bloom now, and the upper half is getting ready to burst as well. So the show should continue for a while. Hot and muggy yesterday, but worth the extra sweat for the beauty. Just a few photos of the highlights. Coffin trailhead is off of Straight Creek Road, a few miles east of Marion Forks.

Nice spot, Kevin. Thanks for posting. It looks like you can get some great views from there. And now the Mt Jefferson Wilderness is calling me.

It's about as fine of a 360-degree view as you'll find anywhere, and the 1.5 mile long trail is a low price of admission with views all the way up. I was looking over towards the Cathedral Rocks, just above Hunts Cove, and noted that the snow was disappearing fast. At least 3 or 4 weeks ahead of the last few summers it would seem! And yes, I hear the Mt Jefferson Wilderness calling me as well.....!Crusak wrote:Nice spot, Kevin. Thanks for posting. It looks like you can get some great views from there.
