Birthday Rainbows on Munra 2.5.13

Post by Rabid Swan » February 9th, 2013, 12:33 pm

I was hoping to catch a break in the weather for a birthday hike, but forecasts showed rain. Despite the weather I headed out with two friends content with seeing Munra pt. shrouded in clouds. On the way up we had decent weather with very light rain. When we made it to the final climb up the shoot something amazing happened. The sun punched through the clouds drenching us in sunlight and rain.

Hikers know that feeling you get just before ascending a summit or emerging out to a viewpoint. That burst of excitement as you approach the fruit of your labor. I think there is a similar feeling you get while hiking in the rain when suddenly BOOM sunshine! Everything is steaming and saturated in color against the backdrop of dark clouds. We experienced both of those sensations at the same time as we crested onto Munra. It was all smiles and laughter as we climbed to the top. As if that wasn't enough we were surrounded by two bright rainbows. The clouds above parted and we were given a nice 45 minute window of sunshine and rainbows where we sat on top drinking our beer. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday hike!

Happy birthday! Great TR, nice to see Munra Pt isn't covered in snow atm.

That was a great birthday present with the rainbow! I love the first picture.
