Paradise 8-19-2012

Post by Stevefromdodge » August 22nd, 2012, 8:23 am

After our Bench Lake hike (http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/vie ... =8&t=12974), we headed up to Paradise to view the flowers in their prime. We didn't really have a plan; we just started up. We wound up hiking up the Skyline and Alta Vista trails and returning on the Dead Horse Trail. There's not a lot to say about these trails, other than they are steep and paved in an asphalt that's beginning to show its age.

I'll let the pictures tell the story, which is basically "GET THERE NOW!". Warning: If an over-exposure to flowers causes problems, you may want to avoid this place (or this trip report).

August 22, 2011: 2-3 feet on the paved trail heading east from Paradise Lodge. Both glacier lilies and avalanche lilies struggling to find air. Completely snowbound past the waterfall.

This year (four days earlier), lupine at its peak (in the higher meadows). Can't believe it's the same place.

Such beautiful pictures, nice work! I like your TRs a lot. Never can be too many photo, IMO.

I felt dumb though, because I assumed this was on Hood at first. I'm embarrassingly inept and telling certain mountains from others. But I was like "I think this is not Mt. Hood..." I've browsed every recent TR about Mt. Hood, I think, and it wasn't looking familiar. Maybe I'm getting better.
