Maiden Peak Thanksgiving Weekend

I returned yesterday from my third annual solo Thanksgiving adventure. You can read the narrative on my blog, here.

In sum: 4 days, 3 nights, hopping from shelter to cabin and back again. Summitted Maiden Peak on a clear, gorgeous days with vast views of Central Oregon. I was alone most of the time, with a group of three coming up Friday afternoon. I enjoyed a full on Thanksgiving feast, watched the snow fall, took my snowshoes out for the first trip of the season, and basked in some serious R&R (in between hauling a heavy pack and splitting wood, of course).

what an awesome adventure thanks for sharing. I'd love to explore this area more, especially in winter, do those shelters/cabin require reservation or are they open on a first come/first served basis?

It didn't take too long. But my snowshoes were like fishhooks--they dug in deeper the more I tried to pull them out. So I had to dig out a hole with my hiking pole to pull my foot up. It was frustrating, but not dangerous. That was the only spot on the hike where I felt I had to walk through potential tree well territory. They're usually easy enough to avoid.

Two thums up for the great report and photos, jessbee. What a great way to celebrate the changing of the seasons by reaching almost 8000ft in all that snow. Thanksgivng dinner in a snow covered cabin, first snowshoe of the season etc. sounds like a great trip:)
