Portland Parks & Rec has a few hundred thousand dollars to spend on developing new hiking trails in Marquam Nature Park (SW Portland), in the area south of Marquam Hill Rd and west of Terwilliger. They've developed a bunch of options, and are seeking public input on where trails should be built. Here's an online comment form you can fill out: http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=54894&
You'll need to consult this map to understand what the options are: http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/ind ... 9&a=350200
I think it's great that they're doing this. Right now, only the Marquam Trail goes through this area, and it has a lot more potential.

Re: Vote on new trails in Marquam Nature Park
I'm all for trails.
But I recall that one of the stumbling blocks that Nick Fish mentioned this year in the Forest Park Singletrack Advisory Committee meetings was that Forest Park is always underfunded. So. . . they've got a million dollars to pay for trails through well-moneyed neighborhoods, but no money for feasibility studies or trail building in our biggest "wilderness" park???
I call foul on Metro. Seems like we ought to fund Forest Park fully, if, as Marcy Houle says, the park is about to be destroyed.

Seriously. I understand trail building isn't free, and that public works projects cost money. Bridges, signage, excavation, and drainage, but $375k for .659 miles? What am I missing?

I think you have the right idea Jerry. At $108/foot, I could create 20 or 30 feet anyway!retired jerry wrote:for $375K maybe some of us can get together and do it

I have no inside knowledge about how PPR sets its trail priorities, but here's their page on the overall trail strategy. http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=42627.

That seems to be about the trails like Springwater Corridor. It's a funny document, because it lists the bike lane on Willamette Blvd as a "trail." Wish that was true!vibramhead wrote:I have no inside knowledge about how PPR sets its trail priorities, but here's their page on the overall trail strategy. http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/index.cfm?c=42627.
