I'm starting this as a joke, but something tells me it won't be shortly...

The heather-like stuff (Erica) is usually called "heath," and it's pretty normal for it to be blooming at this time of year. In the city, I've also seen flowers on camellias, daphne, and andromeda.

Out in the WILD, however, the only flowers so far in 2015 I've seen have been salal at the coast (which blooms pretty much whenever it wants to), and possibly some alders. But it's certainly possible to see grass widows this early, out in the eastern Gorge. Keep an eye out!

Good call. Apparently a few were spotted near the Catherine Creek TH last Friday.

We found two different species flowering at 5000' along the PCT just south of Ashland! Normally (but what does that mean these days  ) there'd still be some footage of snow on the ground down here at that altitude - not flowers!

01.29.15. Grass widows starting along the Coyote Wall trail down low. Nothing higher up, but still? Wow.
