Attention! Don Nelsen as entered the building!

Post by Splintercat » January 20th, 2015, 10:08 am

Folks, we already know that Don Nelsen is a living legend, but the rest of the world (or at least those who are cool enough to watch Oregon Field Guide) are about to find out, too! Don will appear in an upcoming segment that features his many discoveries of early logging relics. I'm sure Don will be able to give us a behind-the-scenes perspective, too, as doing a story with Oregon Field Guide is an adventure, in itself!

The following is from Vince Patton, who produced this segment:
...the story about Don's relentless exploration of old railroad logging evidence in the Gorge will air on Oregon Field Guide on Feb. 12 at 8:30pm and the following Sunday at 6:30pm.
I'm sure Don already knows this, but I didn't want to miss an opportunity to embarrass him -- and more importantly, to make sure all of his friends and admirers on the forum catch this episode!

You rock, Don!

Tom :)

Tom,

Thanks for posting this. I hope it turns out ok. We filmed four or five hours over three days and a half dozen locations and who knows what they will run out of all that footage!

It was an ongoing project of discoveries and research so I learned even more about my favorite haunts as the project went along. I spent hours in the Stevenson newspaper office researching old news reports, even more time at the downtown Mult. Co. library and even some research at the Stevenson library. I even wandered about the Carson Cemetery and found the grave of the man who built the roads and salvaged the logging equipment in the Greenleaf basin. It's amazing how much info is available but the problem is finding it. Still, I had a great time and hope everyone enjoys the program.
