No snow to speak of in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness.

Jan 23: Summit of Salmon Butte, elevation about 4850'. Temperature 45° at 1:30pm, with light "wintery mix" falling.

Encountered very isolated patches from 4200' up, only in canopy openings, and all between 2-12" deep and hard-packed.

Wow! so little snow

February, March often have a lot of snow

I'm rooting for little snow and early access to high elevations

NOAA predicts Feb, March, April will be warmer and maybe drier than normal

Condition updates as of this weekend (1/24-1/25)...

PCT north from Lolo Pass to Devils Pulpit
100% covered in snow
Anywhere from 1" to 2' deep
Trail can be easily followed

Observation Peak from Trapper Creek
100% dirt the entire hike up
No snow to speak of, just a few patches on the summit

Both of these hikes end around 4200-4500 feet, so this is a prime example of how location means everything

1/26 bull of the woods watch tower has patches of snow up to 12" deep but it is mostly dry ground! The trails that comprise the pansy lake - BOTW tower loop are essentially snow free. A couple small patches on the tread but the hills are empty. This is just over 5500 feet.

Jan 30: Mount St. Helens is bare up to the seismic station on Worm Flows. We wore spikes from there on up. Very icy early, above 7000', and slushifying as the day warms up.

Seismic monitoring station at 5610' on Worm Flows route, Jan 30.

Just a bit below the crater rim, about 8100', Jan 30.

100% dirt on the trail all the way to the summit.
No snow on the summit either.
