That's disgusting, Eric.
Lost of berries low on Boundary Trail going towards Mt. Margaret.

Huckleberries thriving all around East Zigzag Mountain, on the trail from Burnt Lake and down to the Cast Creek Trail as well.
This is from 7/31, exactly one week ago. You can see lots of green ones in this shot. I think another they will be abundant along this stretch for another week or two still.-

Wahtum Lake last Thursday it was berry paradise--huckle and blueberries, salmon and cloudberries, thimbleberries too. Took out of town visitors and they couldnt stop eating them.
BTW cultivated blueberries are still going strong in the upper HR valley, we got 17 lbs from Nelson's Berry Farm near Parkdale. Visitors finished 2 out of 3 bags by Saturday. The last bag is frozen in our fridge.

Black huckleberries (the best kind - V. membranaceum) are ripe in the clearcut section of the upper Dry Fir Trail (below the Veda Lake trailhead). You'll also have to put up with the cloying odor of flowering chinquapin, however.
Salmonberries are ripening in abundance and very tasty (for salmonberries) on the Bagby Hot Springs Trail below Battle Ax.

Is there a specific color or huckleberry that is most prized? I was picking up on horsetail trail yesterday and found the purplish ones to be the most tasty.
Re: 2014 Berry Thread
Forest Park's Firelane 4 between Leif E. and Maple Trail is crazy with super-ripe blackberries. I'm talking LOTS of berries, wow. So sweet!

Red huckleberries #1
Black/purple huckleberries #2
Blueberries #3
Wild blueberries are technically a huckleberry

Thanks Q. I wasn't even sure if the red's were even a huckleberry. Next time up, I'll give them a bit more attention. Dang those things are good on my cereal.
