This is all true!! And if suddenly whomever gave you your nickname reverts back to your real name...you in trouble!!
I once knew a nice girl who ended up with the nickname Bubba cause she responded to it one day.

No offense, but my first name is Jeremiah and I
hate when people call me Jerry.
I do respond positively to Jer-bear though for some reason. Nicknames are funny. I find Jeremiah to be rather long and not very anonymous for online use, I guess that's why I go by "miah" online.

I'm flying out tomorrow and starting the trail on Thursday. I'll be at kickoff for the weekend before I hike any farther. Good luck to everyone on PH and I hope you all have wonderful adventures this summer!

I suppose the morning after that kickoff party looks a bit like the Boston Marathon on the PCT? I hear that finding a camping site the first few days from within the horde can be a challenge.
