I've only been trying for 16 years to get good lightning photos...driven to the Plains, east of the Cascades, Arizona for the monsoon...and end up taking these about 2 miles from my house haha.

Great lightning shots, Tyler! Did you use a trigger or just a series of long exposures? The latter strategy is the only one I have used, but obviously you need a very active storm to get many successful shots.

Thanks! I like your shot too! I'm happy with my photos, but curious when I'll be able to get shots like that again.

These were shot with 20 second exposures. I have a trigger as well, but I used it in Arizona last year and it seemed to be way too sensitive (in day time situations). The one downfall to those is that once it senses a discharge it starts taking photos, often missing detailed branching.
Yes, this was a rare opportunity of a storm producing constant lightning, with little rain and no wind.

Nice pictures both of you
Seems like you could have a camera that shot pictures continuously, looping through memory, and when you press a button it saves the last N seconds

Great lightning shots! That was quite a storm about a week ago.
Storm clouds over Goat Rocks at sunset on Sunday, from the summit of Blue Lake Ridge (not out of focus, just a lot of haze)
Next day from Bishop Ridge

Nice pics Romann! Ive always been curious about Blue Lake and Bishop Ridges, good on you for exploring those and thanks for posting the pics

Sean - Bishop Ridge's open east side is just awesome, not big area (for about 2 miles of trail) that maybe better as a "come there, stay there" hike, rather than a part of longer hike. Lots of scrambling opportunities there, a bit brushy but the brush is not bad (and half of it is huckleberry). More pics here.
