A few from the Japanese gardens on Tuesday (don't even bother going on a weekend or after 2pm as it's a zoo even during the "work" week until closing)... I'm lobbying for a photographers ONLY day without the parents whom insist on bringing screaming kids (I thought that's what the zoo is for?), or I hope they increase admission to $100 a day per person/no exceptions or discounts, if that's what I need to pay for some peace and quiet for once anymore...
Anyways, used the Canon 75-300 F4-5.6L..

Interesting shape of the moon, Chris. I've never seen it rendered like that. Any idea what's causing it? I noticed it in one of your photos on the last page too.markesc wrote:A little moonrise/sunrise action... from fri night/sat morning:

Atmospheric bending and refraction. As the air cools at night it settles into layers like a lasagna. They can bend and reflect light much like a mirage!
Nice shots Chris!

This and I've seen the sun do the same thing over the ocean, so that's why it's rare to get super crisp/detailed moon photos when it's just over the horizon, however if you wait just about 5-10 minutes, it can clear up quick, but then you are further away from whatever landmark you want with the moon
Snapped this one this AM... was not even paying attention and then the fog broke up:

That's interesting about the moon. I rarely shoot it so never even thought about that.
I was hoping for a longer, deeper freeze. I'll cross my fingers. The freeze last year was one of my favorite and I got two of my favorite images during that time.
Anyways.. here's a shot from Crater Lake during my residency in October. I picked the latest dates I could, hoping to get the first snow. And luckily.. I did.

Looks Amazing!!! Were there some pretty strange wind sculpted snow drifts by the lodge?TJ_T wrote:That's interesting about the moon. I rarely shoot it so never even thought about that.

It was pretty awesome. We only got about 4-5" and it melted in a couple of days.. so not awesome drifts.

TJ_T - Nice picture of Crater Lake. The artist residency in Joshua Tree National Park is in the house I used to live in back when I was a kid, the old Lost Horse Ranger Station. My dad was a ranger there and I lived at the ranger station for about 3.5 years. We used to get a lot of wildlife coming up to the water guzzler out if front of our house.
