I went to do Wahkeena to Devils Rest just yesterday. snow down to the trailhead but not bad. Just past the falls (maybe 200 feet?) it really got tough. Maybe a couple feet? couldn't see the trail. There were some faint footprints. Maybe ebishop from monday?
Yeah, we still had 6" at home yesterday, and it was all gone this morning!

I'm thinking, by the weekend, it might be bare up to 2000-2500'-ish?

Hiked Hamilton today (Wed Feb 19) ran into light snow starting around 1800 feet, with 4-6 inches on top. Always great to break trail in fresh powder!

Ran into new portlandHiker forum member Maciek on the trail (welcome!). He and "Jim" were the only two I saw.

Speaking of this "Jim" guy. I've run into him twice on table and hamilton three times. Anyone know more about him?

Looks like US26 from Portland is perfectly clear this weekend so it's a good time to go and check out the winter wonderland.. :)

Good news if you're headed to Mt. Rainier anytime soon.

Road to Paradise open at Mount Rainier National Park

"Despite heavy snows, road crews at Mount Rainier National Park managed today to open the 12-mile road from Longmire to Paradise.

The road to the popular winter playground has been closed to the public since Valentine's Day and park crews have been working long hours to clear it.

All vehicles must carry tire chains.

Drivers of two-wheel-drive vehicles are being required to chain up at Longmire before they head up."

As of 2-23-14:

Snow in the Gorge around Devil's Rest starts at 2200 but is erratic. You can drive to the snow gate on Larch Mtn Road at 2600 and much of the forest was snow free under canopy.

Snow on St. Helens at Marble Mountain is about 2 feet deep. Snow at June Lake was almost "trek pole" deep.

Salmon Butte as of Monday 3/10/14...

Hiked to 4300 feet without any snow. Made the turn onto the east side of the ridge and at the first big viewpoint encountered about 1-2 feet of snow. I turned back shortly after attaining the ridge.

Tanner Butte as of 3/15: not much snow on the trail, full snow on top up to the lookout site, which is bare. That will probably melt away fast.

Boulder Ridge/Huckleberry Mountain MHNF

No snow until 3800', very little until well above 4200'. Patchy and about 12-18" in spots, but compacted and walkable.

Only (irritating) snow on Table is behind (east side) one promontory along the north ridge.

Cocked and loaded!

Advise considering the VM alternate route to avoid those alder snapping to attention just as you step over them.
