Cocked and loaded!
Advise considering the VM alternate route to avoid those alder snapping to attention just as you step over them.

Nothing like getting smacked in the face, tripped up and knocked down by a bunch of juvenile alders. Bonus: the occasional surprise post hole experience.
That wasn't much fun at all.

Maybe six inches of fresh snow on the Larch Mountain trail today starting around 2000 feet, though I'm not sure how long it will last.

Backpacked into salmon huckleberry wilderness via salmon river trail. Clear of snow and a beautiful trail. Camped at goat creek. Short out and back.

NF-45 just a couple miles short of the Memaloose Lake trailhead. This is approaching from the west/south, at just short of 3600ft. The situation is the same approaching from the other side (via Clackamas hwy across the green bridge).
Picture is from Wednesday (April 2nd).

South side of Mt Adams patchy snow starts below 3000' accompanied by plenty of mud. Driving up one road I ran into deep mud that most 2WD vehicles would have gotten bogged down in before even seeing any snow. Warm and dry weather this week should help.

We are definitely in the season where the snow level yo-yos around quite a bit. Pick the right day and you get sun, warmth and everything coming up roses below the consolidated snow line. Pick the wrong day and it's big, wet snow blobs falling off the trees and down the back of your neck at about 2000 feet up.

So I was worried about post holing on Silver Star, so I made an impromptu trip up to the Worm Flows so I could post hole there :/
Patchy snow started around 2,600' with solid snow above 3,100'.
It was mostly solid but some post holing in areas.

Mars and I hiked from Wahkeena up to Larch Mountain on the 11th. No snow until the very top when there were only the few tiniest patches still holding on. It was a gorgeous day. We saw only one other person the whole time!

I hiked Dog Mountain Friday. No snow.
There are some tiny patches of wildflowers, the purples and yellows, but nothing expansive. Give it 3-5 more weeks.
I hiked Trapper Creek Wilderness Saturday. I hit snow around 3,500 on the Soda Peaks Lake side and saw similar levels across the valley at Observation Peak.
