I googled for info on this and found that such are not all that rare but with as much hiking as I do I've sure never seen one. Must be a one in several thousand occurrence, at least. It was about four inches long. Anyone else seen one?

I suspect that explains a lot of things.

This is similar to the "Mountain Face". I saw this up near Paradise Park a few years ago. I don't know if it has an "official" name, but I dubbed it "Squatch Mountain". :?

Okay, this isn't strictly speaking a PortlandHikers photo, per se.

But all the talk about roads leading to trailheads sprung to mind as I flipped past this in an old archive.

Wasn't actually so bad, afterall. There was a rest area at this exit! :)

Luckily, we had a map and compass and determined we were about a mile off the trail so we had to bushwack our way back to the trail. There was lots of blown-down trees in the area, which made the way pretty difficult. At a random spot between two downed logs, I noticed this: http://www.portlandhikers.org/forum/dow ... w&id=40565
Pretty sure that's the hind track of a bear :P Although sasquatch is certainly more entertaining
