Every time I post goals on one of these threads, something happens to mess up my hiking/backpacking season! I will refrain in the future!

This year it was plantar fasciitis; it's much better now (still have occasional pain in the heel for no apparent reason, often while sitting, which I suspect may be cramps--stretching helps) and I'm just starting to do limited exercise walking (on grass only), with lots of stretching before and after. Needless to say I'm being very cautious!

I am working on weight loss (to help my heel as well as general health) and can boast that I've already lost 15 lbs., despite a family wedding and not being able to hike.

I do enjoy the trip reports here, since I can't go there myself--please keep 'em coming!

I know a little of how you feel, Grannyhiker. :( Setbacks can sure keep a hiker off the trail. Good for you to keep at it, and to take it slow. Same here. Since I had that bilateral hernia surgery in January my recovery to a functional and (relatively) pain-free state has been a slow one.

But I'm finally able to ride the stationary bike again without pain, and I've started strength training again also (just a few exercises, nothing crazy). And yesterday I hiked 15 miles and felt great (it was an easy hike, half of it on the PCT, which usually has an easy grade compared to some trails) but 15 miles is still a good hike. And I had 20# of stuff with me too. Drank about 3L of liquids, a warm day.

So I'm slowly getting close to the fitness level I was at last year.

This year's goals? lol at one point this year I was wondering if I was gonna hike at all in 2012. Now I'm just hoping to get out every chance I get and hike as far as I can. But I really want to go to some NEW places. And bring friends along! :)
