My goal is to do one backpack per month - mission accomplished plus I did 2 in August

I missed April in 2011. I did 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.

500 miles, 54,000 feet EG for 2012 - I guess I'm sort of a slacker :)

I managed a Half Spitfire in 2012!

Composed of 53 day hikes totaling 532 miles & 157,750 feet of EG.

41 of the 53 covered at least some new ground that I hadn't hiked before.

Longest hike was the Hood 360 but it wasn't the most tiring that was the Opal Creek bushwhack to Tanner Butte with Don & Peder!

Looking forward to both recliner & some Loony hiking in 2013..

Well, it turned out ok, but still nursing an injured knee, so much slowed down for much of the year.

Stats for 2012:
90 hikes
564 miles total
172,653 vertical EG
170 miles hiked in places I’d never been before
86 miles bushwhacked

3 miles in AK,
2 in AZ
28 in CA
45 in HI
29 in ID
9 in NV
307 in OR
141 in WA

Here’s how I did compared to original plans of Dec. 2011:

“I intend to get back to the Big Island and do more exploring on Hualalai and http://www.summitpost.org/hualalai/262991 get up there via the Pu’u Wa’a Wa’a route. Also, I will be giving Mauna Loa another shot. Very interesting places to be sure.”

Made it back to the Big Island but diving took precedence and only managed a few recliner hikes. Oh well – later this year is soon enough!

“On Maui, I may once again try for the summit of Eke Crater but the weather really has to cooperate for that one. I have a few more things to check out on Haleakala, too. If time permits, I will fly over to Molokai and give the highest mountain, Kamakou, a shot. It’s a brutal jungle slog so weather has to cooperate on that one, too.”

I flew to Maui but the day before I left I fell and needed 35 stitches – jungle travel could have caused problems with infections so I ended up only hiking a few new places on Haleakala. Still, one out of three is something! Molokai happens next week, too, so a good start for 2013.

“In the Gorge, so much to do! The availability of the new Lidar maps has really expanded the possibilities. Having my new Loony brothers to go out and get trashed with should either kill me or make me stronger. Time will tell!“

Lots of good hikes done using lidar to help plan so that goal worked out. Also, did a few awesome hikes with fellow Loonies so this worked out pretty well.

“I’ll try for the summits of at least a dozen more county high points in Washington State and also will do a few more in both AZ and Idaho.“

Managed 13 new county HP’s so this worked out even better than planned: I climbed/hiked two county highpoints in Idaho, did my penultimate one in OR (only Polk Co. remains), and six more CA peaks. Also, I hiked/climbed four more WA county HP’s. I did a short recliner just across the AZ border when I visited Vegas but didn’t do anything major - probably will later this year, though. [/b]

“If that isn’t enough, and depending on my work schedule, weather and time, I may do some more hiking/climbing in CA, NV and UT. Also, I’d like to fly up to Alaska and see what I can accomplish in the Juneau area and also maybe drive up to the North Slope and tag some peaks. That’s a long shot, though – really difficult terrain up there.”

Aside from the six county high point climbs I didn’t do any more in CA but in Nov. I was in Las Vegas so climbed Mummy Mt. for a break – 11,540’, so really a darn good workout! Didn’t make it to UT but will be there in a couple of weeks so I’ll get something done then for sure. Also, didn’t get to Juneau or the North Slope but did manage a trip to Anchorage and climbed Flattop Mt. Nice little peak right on the edge of town. Weather sucked so that’s all I got done. I’ll give AK another shot later this year.

On to 2013 -

My goals were:
My plans are simple: A Mt. Whittier loop with Tom/Roy, a Wauna Point direct with Guy and a few fun hikes with Chip! Those hikes are just all a piece of cake, so I am looking forward to a relaxing 2012! On any "free" days I will just do recliner hikes.
I failed on the Mt. Whittier loop with Tom/Roy. I did traverse the peak twice - Once with Chase and once with Jay & Craig. Mt. Whittier is back on the program this year... so T-Roy you must get 100% well!

Otherwise the year was a big success with 760 miles and 171,500 EG. I suspect that my 2013 season may not match last year, but we will see. My first hike of the year was splendid with a stocking stuffer being put to good use:

Everyone is welcome for the annual Tom/Roy Whittier loop! There are several other adventures on the drawing board for the area and you are always good company. One plan involves Karl and Spirit Lake!

Coldwater Peak is a hike once the snow has melted - it has superb views.

Count me in as well!

2012 was one of the best years of my life. Hiked a little over 1,860 miles and had so much fun doing it. Here's hoping for an awesome 2013 as well :)

Superb video Sean! I'm honored that I was able to hike the wildwood, tomlike, hatfield, hood360 and St. Helens loop with you in 2012! Good times indeed.

2012 indeed was awesome! I was really glad that I was able to visit family back home so that was nice! :) I did 709 miles and wasn't able to accomplish some of my goals, but did visit a lot of new places.

Bye 2012 and welcome 2013 with a wooohooo mayhem style! :D

Thanks, CH. I had a blast. I am really the lucky one here, cant thank you enough for leading around the Timberline and Loowit loops. I want a rematch with Mr Hatfield and the Hood in 2013 tho! :)
