Excellent job, everyone!
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.

Looks like Karl's pic is getting closer, but Barrett is still too low on the horizon.
My current guess is Big Bend Mtn in the center of the watershed.

"Grant Castle" does look like Dog Spine. The forest has grown up quite a bit on its west side.

In the middle of the photo you see some young people struggling in the mud on bicycles. The caption references "Col. L.L. Hawkins" and his "Proposed bicycle path from Portland to Mt. Hood". Col. Hawkins was a founder of the Mazamas.

Here is an article about him.

I wonder what happened to his proposed trail? It's probably under sections of Hwy 26.

Also neat to compare the old photos to newer ones. Pretty remarkable.

Eliot Glacier retreated a little

Deep ice cave? Where?

Yocum Falls on Government Camp Creek? - I wonder what that is.

Tom commented on it in the post follow up comments. It's now just "camp creek" and the falls is below the Mirror Lake TH if I'm not mistaken. I've never seen it though.

I noticed that. The photo vantage point is almost exact, the newer one a tad closer to the trees in the foreground of the older one. The newer one could possibly have been taken later in the year, but the lack of snow at Cloud Cap in both photos seems to indicate the melt was mostly over for that year. Given the rate of global ice retreat, it isn't really surprising that Elliot has retreated that much in 100 years. It looks about 30-40% of the size of the older photo. It would make sense as this is supposedly why the Sandy Glacier caves exist, as it too is evidence of a dying glacier, from the inside out. Another 100 years (sans eruption) and there will probably only be snow at the very peak year round. I wonder what that will mean for the Clackamas, Sandy, ZigZag, White, Hood Rivers in the summer? The salmon in the fall? The agriculture in Hood River...etc. Big changes to come, no doubt.

Keith, I realize you've moved on from Talapus - but just because it's kind of mysterious and rare to see images from in there, here's the photo set I was referring to:

Mount Talapus Images on Flickr

Wouldn't it be nice if we could hike around in there... as easily as we can hike up to the edge of the open reservoirs on Mount Tabor and Washington Park..? Nah... that would put our water at GRAVE RISK..! :o
