Herman Bridge Tr/PCT

Post by turtle » December 24th, 2012, 6:06 pm

These first two are on the Herman Bridge Trail just before the bridge over Herman Creek. Hiking poles are shortened.

This one is on the PCT headed to Benson Plateau no more than 1/2 mile uphill--south--of the Wilderness Boundary sign.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say Thank You and Merry Christmas to everyone who works on the trails. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks for the heads up turtle! I took care of the two sites near the bridge [here]. For the PCT work, the snow looks to be 4-6" deep so I suspect it is located not too far from the junction. I've never been on that section of the PCT. Any idea how far uptrail from the junction? Thanks again.

Wow! That was fast. I admire your ambition.

According to the Field Guide the Wilderness boundary is at 2000 ft.

I traced a section on the Mapsource software from the Herman Bridge/PCT junction to the boundary and that was 1.4 miles. According to the trail log from the Field Guide it is 1.5 miles. I guesstimate that the blow-down is no more than 1/2 mile up-trail from the Wilderness boundary. That would be just under 2 miles total from the junction. I imagine that there is more snow now than when I was there on the 24th. Hope this helps. Thanks again.

Thanks turtle. That brings it to a 8mi roundtrip. Was it as obstructive as the blowdowns near the bridge? more? less? How did the sizes of the trees compare? (except for punky stuff, greater than 12" means I'd bring my larger saws, an ax and wedges)

It was much smaller than the blow-down by the bridge. The way around is just by the stump on the right in the picture. I don't think anything is over 12 inches in diameter.

Okay, maybe next time I'm out I'll take a break from trailwork, do the snow hike and clear it. Thanks for all the details.
