Not at all! Very much appreciated! My chainsaw isn't the best, and I always appreciate the extra effort (and precision) in hand work. Thought it was time to give this a shot. Thanks...mcds wrote:Ok, I'm guessing that's definitely tldr.

I always worry, that when it cuts most of the way through, it will suddenly snap up and hit me. Depending on what tension the branch is being applied.
What do you do when you're sawing from the top, and the cut closes a bit binding the saw? I sometimes have to cut from the bottom but that's awkward.

Jerry, they sell wedges you can put in the slot you are cutting so the log's weigh/tension/gravity won't pinch your saw.
Also, there are safety things you can do to avoid the log snapping up at you. It depends on the situation, but you might want to use a strong rope to keep the tension in place (actually, don't do this if you don't know exactly what you are doing).
Someone cut a huge log on one of those trails just below Indian Point last week. I guess it had been there for quite a long time. Anyway, thanks for your work. Those trails are looking nice lately and I appreciate your work.

I think sticking with smaller branches, like 6 inches, avoids a lot of the problems.
mcds sized logs are more tricky

Thank you thank you! I love that trail and so appreciate the time and effort you've given to restoring it.

Great work Mcds, some of these logs are big! Impressive to do so much work in two days, all alone - much appreciated.

Thank you, Mcds. I appreciate all the hard work you are doing. I've been up the Nick Eaton Trail once this year and plan to go back again soon. I really like that trail.
