Cape Horn Loop Hike updates

Post by zoogelsnof » September 13th, 2014, 3:28 pm

1) Currently listed at 6.8 miles and 1,600 feet. My track today on the current path was 7.1 miles and 1350 feet.

2) This sentence needs to change -

OLD - "The trail's only downside is that it's not well-signed. The signs and markers mentioned in this guide were noted on January 5, 2008, but they might not last. "

NEW - "The trail is very well signed. There are both metal stakes and wooden signs at each junction. The signs and markers mentioned in this guide were noted on September 13th, 2014, but they might not last."

3) This sentence -

OLD - "This is an open section of trail atop the cliffs high above the State Highway Viaduct. The entire Gorge is on display here. Look out for cables and fencing creating tripping hazards here."

New - "There is a newly constructed stone amphitheater here. The entire Gorge is on display." (there are no cables or fencing here anymore, so the last sentence can be dropped entirely.)

4) This sentence -

OLD - "The trail climbs to the base of the second waterfall, Cape Horn Falls, then crosses behind the waterfall."

NEW - "The trail climbs to a bridge that cross in front of the second waterfall, Cape Horn Falls. There are several paths up to the falls from the bridgehead, and you can use them to walk right up to the falls and to get behind them for a very interesting view."

@zoogelsnof: So nice to get great corrections that can just be plugged in! Aspects of the Cape Horn hike have certainly changed and it's no longer a "new" hike. Thank you!
