Is this western chinquapin? For some reason, I thought this mainly grew farther south.

About 5100' on Gumjuwac Saddle, 7 miles ESE of Mount Hood, May 10.

We're well within its range, although it doesn't grow north of the Columbia very much. I saw some on the Tamanawas Falls trail once.

Okay, yeah, I was just a few miles from there. Guess I need to get over into the rain shadow more often! (Am I right it's predominantly an east-sider?)

Thanks, Adam. Intriguing plant. Surprised I haven't noticed it more often.
