This little guy was everywhere on a recent hike, but I can't narrow down what it is. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good photo of the gills, but I'm hoping that since it's so prevalent that someone will know.

These little things are called fairy bonnets - genus Mycena - but beyond that ID usually needs to go to the microscopic level. A very ubiquitous species is epipterygia. It helps to know their nutrient sources, e.g. fir needles, hardwood twigs + any odor. As you note, they are probably our most common type of mushroom.

Ah, yes! Thank you, Bobcat! I had it narrowed to some type of mycena but wasn't sure which one. My other (wild) guess was a conifer psilocybe, but they looked too light and grew differently.
