all-white boletus?

all-white boletus?

Post by SonOfTamarack » October 28th, 2013, 11:25 pm

Found these guys along the Falls Creek Falls trail in a third-or-fourth-growth section before the bridge. They were coming right out of the dirt and lifting a good deal of dirt with their caps. Figured they were some gilled mushroom, but found that they had bolete sponge underneath (though you can see in the cross-section that it's pretty thin). No bluing, no real staining, but can't ID them. The closest seems to be the Boletus Barrowsii, but this doesn't seem to be its range.

Possibly milk bolete (Suillus granulatus).
