Scat ID (cougar?), Benson plateau, Chinidere

Post by MarsIsCobra » June 2nd, 2013, 9:06 am

found suspicious scat directly in the middle of trail on Benson Plateau and just north of Chinidere.

Both found directly on trail. Sorry I did not get better pictures, nor inspect it closer. These are the highest resolution pics I have.

The first picture looks like it's older and probably coyote. The second picture looks fresher, was it? It also looks like the second picture is in a depression, animal track, or maybe it was digging with intent to bury? In that case I would guess bobcat.

I found a huge cougar scat about 150' up from the Kings Mtn TH yesterday. At least, this looks like it came from a cougar... and it looks like what other people have informed me came from a cougar.

The 'pile' is about 12" across. Looked pretty fresh, but I'm not an expert on that.
