Ok...so not really a hike, but it was an amazing day to be at the coast!

The waves were huge, and the sun was out. Yesterday was just stormy, strong winds and heavy rain, nothing unexpected though.

The waves were going every which direction, making them even more scary than normal.

Some were just huge and overpowering.

Some were putting on a show...

The pictures don't do justice to the sound of the waves hitting the rocks and moving the logs. Or the feel of the ground shaking or the mist hitting your face...

To top it off, a bald eagle made several passes overhead, as did two coast guard helicopters. Maybe I'll post those pics later.

Freakin' awesome! My heart rate is up just enlarging those photos.

There's a very large boulder (size of a room) at the south end of Cannon Beach that you can climb up on. Even small waves thump and bump that monstrous rock into enough motion that you can feel it under you like a shock wave. I can't imagine what those behemoths felt like today through the very ground!

Very cool. They remind me of being at Shore Acres.

Wow! On the way home I heard on the radio they were recommending people just stay off the beach - now I see why! What an awesome sight! Great pics!

Well, I didn't stay off the beach, I went out there to Cape D today: fun, fun, fun! I have two words for you. Shaving. Cream. Trip Report with explanation pending.

Maybe in reference to the foam from the waves? Did you see the bald eagle? Likes to hang out around there.

Definitely in reference to the foam from the waves. No bald eagles, but enough chickadees to shake the trees, literally. I hiked, then biked. I am absolutely coming back to check that area out from top to bottom.
