Magellan SporTrak MAP.. should I buy it?

My girlfriend came across a Magellan SporTrak MAP for $40. I've been looking to get a GPS. Should I get this or would I be wasting my money?
No matter what your needs are it will be a $40 experiment at best, could be a nice unit, but I have no experience with Magellan devices, just chiming in based on its price and age.....
What are you looking to get from a GPS device (WRT hiking... assuming)? What are your expectations?
