KING 5 News is reporting that a man from Bellingham is missing after a hike near Baker Lake over the weekend. The 69-year-old man, who has not been identified yet, was reported overdue Saturday night missing around 10:30 p.m. He apparently went for a day hike on Rainbow Ridge.

Sunday, Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies located his car at the trail head, but no other sign of him. He was said to be hiking alone. Search teams were planning to return to the area Monday to continue looking for him. Later, Search and Rescue volunteers from Whatcom and Skagit Counties joined the search, but found no sign of the missing hiker.

A man from Bellingham who hadn't been seen since leaving for a hike near Baker Lake Saturday was found safe Tuesday.

After searchers with the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and Mountain Rescue volunteers combed the area for days, crews reported just before 11 a.m. Tuesday they found the 69-year-old man in a steep area in the Rainbow Ridge area.

The hiker appeared to be ok. No word yet if he suffered any injuries, but crews said he was well enough to communicate with searchers. Searchers expect it will take several hours to get him down from the area.

The hiker, who has not been identified, was reported overdue and missing around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night after he went for a day hike alone on Rainbow Ridge. On Sunday, Whatcom County Sheriff's deputies located his car at the trail head, but no other sign of him.

That's a steep, tough area. It's a good thing they found him...that's not a place I would like to be lost.
