Upcoming Volunteer events:
Friends of Forest Park
ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES:
Weekday Opportunities
When: Each Thursday at 9:00 am
Where: Changes each week. If you would like to be added to the weekly email list, contact Jeff.
What: Join Jeff Hough, our Trails & Restoration manager for a morning (or longer if you are really gung ho) of various projects in Forest Park. At times, you may be clearing down wood, restoring washed out trails, planting native shrubs, building a bridge, or perhaps just walking and pruning.
Volunteer Work Parties
When: the third Saturday of each month, 9 am to noon.
Where: Meeting location varies - clink on the event for more information, or e-mail us for more details.
Friends of Forest Park has long had an active crew of volunteers working the trails of Forest Park. In 2007, we started a new tradition of offering regular events for members, Forest Park users, and other volunteer enthusiasts.
A typical day involves some routine maintenance, along with small construction projects: building bridges, installing culverts and/or turnpikes, etc. We always have refreshments on hand and raffle off a few prizes (including a free pair of KEEN shoes) at the end of each event.
For more information on any of these events, send an e-mail to [email protected]

Re: Other Group Trail Maintenance events
Another option is that on most National Forest trails, you can take some lopers or a saw and remove branches from the trail.
Make sure you cut it off at least 3 feet from the center of the trail.

Re: Other Group Trail Maintenance events
How can I start volunteering for the trail Rx stuff? I am new to this, so please forgive my ignorance....
Re: Other Group Trail Maintenance events
Welcome Christopher! That's great that you want to volunteer! Please feel free to contact any of the email addresses or groups listed above. Even if there's no current events, you can be on an email list for notifications. Trail tending is alot of fun and very rewarding - NO special skills required, you learn from the leaders and other trailworkers.
Also check out http://www.trailkeepersoforegon.org, and sign up there for receiving info.
With winter things slow down some, but keep in touch for future opportunities!
