Whitewater Glacier/Mt Jefferson

Post by scrambler2 » September 9th, 2013, 10:28 am

I ascended the Whitewater climbing route and onto the immense Whitewater Glacier. Booting across the snowfields and edges of the glacier went fine. I did need to put on my crampons when crossing the older ice and crevasse areas. (disclaimer - climbing is dangerous, know what your doing, never go solo on a glacier, blah blah blah) Here are some pics of this seldom visited area.

Seracs hanging above. There was one that had broken off and slid down.

Navigating through the crevasses was straight forward.

Fresh water. I drank straight from the glacier without filtering.

Great views of the glacier and Jefferson Park. Somewhere near where you were is the highest point in Marion County (It's not at the summit as some people believe).
